Alies Sluiter is an award-winning director and screenwriter drawn to character-driven stories about identity and systems of power, often told with a splash of wry humour. She’s also proven her comedic chops directing an episode of the acclaimed ABC comedy Aftertaste. Selected for the 2020 BAFTA Newcomer program and a Berlinale Talent, her work has screened globally. Her Academy® Award qualified short Ayaan has won over 30 awards, including the Australian Directors Guild Award and the National Board of Review Award (USA). Her collaboration on Myth with Gravity & Other Myths also earned an Australian Directors Guild Award among others, and most recently Boy on Fire won the LUMIX Award for Best Australian Film Award (Academy® Qualifying) at Flickerfest.
Before becoming a filmmaker, Alies performed in over 55 countries as a composer, musical director and violinist. She’s currently developing her debut feature and a TV series with Closer Productions.
